Option 3 in a Small, Small World
You just have to appreciate good irony.
So here I am, about a week and a half away from my final day at work, when the phone rings and it's an old acquaintance I used to work with back seven or eight years ago. I had talked to her a couple of times since Katrina and, last I had heard, she was still living in Memphis.
So it was quite a shocker when after a moment of chitchat she said this was an official call--she is back in New Orleans working for the Road Home program and she has been assigned my case as a resolution adviser.
If you recall, after being rejected for Road Home funds I had returned a snippy note saying they had incorrectly assessed the damage to my house. Then I got a clueless follow-up call asking whether I planned to stay in New Orleans after getting my Road Home settlement. Since there was no settlement, I told them that no, I was moving to New Hampshire. At the time, I had no plans of moving.
So, now that I really AM moving--though not to New Hampshire--they are trying to resolve the case?
So, okay, they're sending me forms and now instead of Option 1 (staying in NOLA) or Option 2 (staying in LA), I really am taking Option 3 (getting the heck outta Dodge), which theoretically qualifies me for 40% of whatever the settlement might be.
And besides that, isn't the Road Home out of money and something like $4 billion in the hole? So what's 40% of nothing?
